Ok, I'm feeling guilty about not having given a real update since 2005 started, so away we go.
Biggest news over the past month or so: the new computer arrived just before New Year's. This is the biggest reason as to why I haven't updated. I've been too preoccupied with the graphics spewing out of my GeForce 6800, and trying to pick the 49ers franchise up out of to basement in Madden 2005. That's also the biggest reason why no one has seen me on IM recently. I still haven't re-downloaded all of my clients...
You know what? I think I'm going to do that right now while I type...
(Five minutes later...)
Ok, the download window is in the background...umm...where was I? Oh, yeah, new computer...anyway, I've been spending most of my free time trying out all of the new toys on this thing. Specs are as follows:
Windows XP Media Center (a little better than that useless Home edition

)
3.2Ghz Pentium 4
17" flat panel monitor
256MB GeForce video card
250GB hard drive
3.5" floppy drive (Yeah, I'm old school...I can't function without my floppies)
USB optical mouse
Dual 16X DVD-ROM drives, one of which is a burner
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card, with 5.1 surround sound speakers
1GB of RAM
So yeah, I won't have to buy another computer again for a while, which is good, since this thing cost me nearly $2,000.
Besides the new life support machine, I've also got college sucking up most of my life. Networking, Operating Systems, Visual BASIC, and Business Communications, w00t! (insert sarcasm here...) For the most part, they really aren't that bad. The first two are taught by Rob Richardson, a scruffy fat guy who essentially created the networking degree at SC4. Get this: he actually knows about the topics he lectures about in class.
Hang on...AIM just finished...
Oh hey, I already have el-cheapo version of
MSN messenger on here. Cool; one less thing to download...
(scurries around; starts downloading Yahoo! messenger)
Rob rocks. He knows how to get his information across without boring me to tears, nor does he excessively flood it with inane humor. He's just one of those teachers that you have to hear to believe.
Visual BASIC could be worse, but it takes an excessive amount of caffeine to make it through that class. It isn't stale or anything; you just have to be more heavily wired than a Christmas tree to get your in-class work done. I only have it on Thursday nights, which means that we have a four-hour class. Each night, we are supposed to go into the lab and create a new program using the skills that were covered in the pre-lab lecture. Ordinarily, this isn't a big deal, but along with the program, we are supposed to submit
extensive documentation. I won't go into detail, as it pains me to do so, but let's just say it stops short of defining when the users are supposed to start picking their butt...
Alrighty, it's 11:30, and Yahoo just finished, meaning that I need to start getting ready to blow this joint for school. More to come in a few hours, hopefully.
